Production Centre – Mullai Women Development Society
The production centre building at Thatchadampan in Oddusuddan DS Division was constructed (for a cost of around LKR 3 Mn) with the support of War Affected People’s Association (WAPA), Belgium and declared open by Ms. Rupawathy Ketheswaran, Government Agent, Mullaitivu in 2019.
The original plan was to facilitate around 5 vulnerable women to engage in the grinding of rice, grains and chilies for commercial purpose and earn daily income. The unit catered to the daily needs of the villagers in and around the area and managed to survive until the first break up of COVID 19 when it became gradually dysfunctional.
CFCD wanted to recommence the micro industry with the introduction of coconut oil production.
Three women became engaged in the new industry when the capital invested amounted to almost LKR 1 Mn. Machinery for cutting copra and extracting oil including filtering and cleaning was installed in the adjoining building. A platform to dry coconut was also prepared newly so that the split coconut could be dried fast. The production commenced with around 5000 coconuts procured nearby. The quality of the coconut oil proved to be very good and acceptable to the customers.
