Urgent Call: Support Families and Children Affected by Cyclone Ditwah
Cyclone Ditwah left a trail of devastation across Sri Lanka. Thousands of families continue to struggle, especially in the Northern Province where many communities remain unable to return to their normal routines. Government authorities in Jaffna rolled out rapid response measures, including food assistance through cooked meals and dry rations. They also requested non-governmental organizations to complement national efforts by focusing on essential non-food relief.
CFCD joined the emergency coordination meetings on 1 December (District Secretariat) and 2 December (Northern Province Governor’s Office). The discussions highlighted an immediate need for non-food essentials such as bed sheets, towels, tarpaulins, mosquito nets and coils, floor sheets, sanitary items, women’s innerwear, and baby care materials. A dedicated unit at the Jaffna District Secretariat now coordinates all relief contributions to ensure proper channeling and equitable distribution.
CFCD places children at the center of its mission. We priorities support for affected students through school-related assistance such as school bags, stationery, footwear, socks, and other essential items that help children regain stability and return to learning without delay. We also remain committed to extending relief to the most vulnerable families who face severe hardship due to the cyclone.
This year has been exceptionally challenging for CFCD. Despite our long history of responding to emergencies, limited funding restricts our ability to meet the growing needs of affected communities. We invite generous individuals, well-wishers, and partners to stand with us at this critical moment. Your contribution—small or large—will directly reach vulnerable children and families in the Jaffna district.
