Outboard Motor Training for Fisheries Held in Tellipalai
A two-day Outboard Motor Training for fisheries workers, organized by the Centre For Child Development (CFCD) and found by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), took place on September 5 and 6, 2024, at the Palali Village Secretariat Office Hall in Tellipalai. This specialized training aimed to enhance the skills of 24 participants from the local fisheries community, providing them with essential knowledge to maintain and repair outboard motors.
The training, facilitated by experts from the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, focused on the technical aspects of motor maintenance, troubleshooting common engine problems, and ensuring the long-term efficiency and safety of outboard motors. Practical demonstrations and hands-on experience allowed the participants to apply their learning directly to their daily fishing operations.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower local fisheries with the skills needed to sustain their livelihoods and improve their resilience in the face of technical challenges. The collaboration between UNDP, CFCD, and the Ocean University of Sri Lanka highlights the importance of equipping the fisheries community with the tools and knowledge to optimize their resources and improve safety at sea.
The successful completion of this training ensures that the participants are now better prepared to handle and maintain their equipment, ultimately benefiting the local fishing industry and promoting sustainable practices
