Building Confidence, Responsibility and Positive Leadership among Students
With the financial support of Tech Outreach (Malaysia), one of the key donors supporting CFCD’s sponsorship programme for vulnerable students, the Centre For Child Development (CFCD) organised a Leadership Development and Motivation session on 25 July 2026. The session brought together 45 students, 8 boys and 37 girls, for a practical learning experience designed to strengthen confidence, leadership qualities, teamwork and social responsibility.
The programme focused on helping students recognise their own potential and understand that leadership is not simply about holding a position or directing others. Through individual self-introductions, small-group activities, creative exercises and guided interaction, students were encouraged to speak with confidence, listen to others, share ideas, cooperate with peers and take responsibility for shared tasks.
The activity-based approach created opportunities for students to move beyond passive participation and practise leadership behaviours in a supportive setting. Facilitators also encouraged students to connect personal responsibility with positive contribution to their schools, families and wider communities. CFCD representatives and parents participated in the programme, adding to the supportive environment around the students.
The session was facilitated by S. Prakash, Programme Secretary of CFCD, and D. Raviraj of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), Chankanai. Their involvement brought complementary programme and child-protection perspectives to the session and supported a practical, student-centred approach.
The session highlighted the value of giving young people repeated opportunities to practise communication, teamwork, confidence and responsible decision-making. Some students initially showed hesitation, and limited time meant that not all planned activities could be completed. These lessons reinforce the importance of continuing such opportunities so that students can gradually build confidence through active participation.
Through its support, Tech Outreach (Malaysia) enables CFCD to extend assistance to vulnerable students beyond educational needs and create opportunities for their broader personal development. Leadership and motivation activities such as this help young people build the confidence, interpersonal skills and sense of responsibility they need to participate positively in school and community life.
