Indukadevi Ganesh
Sri Lanka won a Gold medal in the International kick-boxing competition held in Lahore, Pakistan on 18 January 2022. The event was for under 25 years 50-55 kg sector girls. The memorable prize was won by Ms.Indukadevi Ganesh from Puthiyanagar, Karapattamurippu of Oddusuddan DS Division in Mullaitivu District. She lost her father early on and has been brought up by her mother. She has an elder brother and mother supports the family through odd jobs. Indukadevi was being sponsored to continue her education by Child First UK, through Centre for Child Development, Jaffna. The educational sponsorship was a monthly financial contribution given to vulnerable children identified with the support of Divisional Secretariat staff members. Child First UK commenced helping her from her in 2013 until she sat the GCE(AL) exam in 2019.
Indukadevi became interested in sports from her schooling career and got attracted to this artistic and energetic sport when she found a suitable and skillful trainer at the school. Through regular and rigorous practice Indukadevi was able to grab many medals within Sri Lanka. It has to be a great achievement for the young girl to have accumulated as much as 19 medals and 5 cups through taking part in competitions locally. For all this she began training since 2017.
By receiving the International title Indukadevi at a very young age of 20 years has brought fame not only to her community and home town but also to the Nation as a whole. We wish Indukadevi good luck and success in the future too!
