Aari Work Training for Youth
As part of the project “Expanded Support for Durable Resettlement and Reintegration”, a 15-day Aari work training program was organized by the Centre For Child Development (CFCD) and found by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The training took place at the Vidatha Center in Karaveddy, with 16 youth participants eager to learn this intricate and traditional embroidery technique.
Facilitated by experts from the Vidatha Center of Sri Lanka, the training covered both fundamental and advanced Aari stitching techniques. Participants were guided through various aspects of Aari work, including fabric selection, needle handling, and creating intricate patterns, enabling them to produce detailed and artistic embroidery.
This program provided the youth with not only technical skills but also a pathway to entrepreneurial opportunities, as Aari work is highly valued in the fashion and textile industries. The training aimed to empower participants by giving them the ability to generate income through the creation of embroidered garments and accessories.
By the end of the 15 days, the participants had developed confidence in their skills, ready to apply what they had learned toward building a sustainable livelihood. This initiative is an essential part of efforts to foster long-term resettlement and reintegration, equipping young people with practical skills to support themselves and contribute to their communities.
